A little information about Sea Scouts, Ship 1000, and what we do.
What is Sea Scouts?
Sea Scouts is part of the Venturing program of the Boy Scouts of America.
Venturing is a co-ed program for youth ages 14 to 21 that focuses on high-adventure activities.
What is Ship 1000?
Much like a Boy or Girl Scout "troop", a "ship" is the term for a unit in Sea Scouts. Ship 1000 is a Sea Scouts ship in the Gray Owl District of the Circle Ten Council of Boy Scouts of America.
What, exactly, does Ship 1000 do?
Two Sundays a month, we meet at Lake Ray Hubbard. Members learn to sail, practice sailing, captain sailboats, teach others how to sail, and host interested Boy and Girl Scout troops in sailing and camping weekends. We also maintain our boats, and - with an experienced membership - take high-adventure trips to open-ocean sailing spots. What kind of equipment does Ship 1000 have?
We have five boats:
- Catalina 22' - Spiked Punch
- Catalina 25' - Kokomo
- Catalina 25' - Serenity

- O'Day 24' - Beauregard
What is a Charter Organization?
A community-based organization that serves as a supporter and leader for a BSA Scouting unit.
About our Charter Organization:
Our Charter Organization is Inland Sailing Center, which is the authorized North Texas area dealership for Catalina Yachts and Compac Yachts, serving the Dallas/Fort Worth and North Texas area. What we're about:
We see Sea Scouts as an opportunity for youth to learn about sailing and just have fun! If you are interested in advancing to a leadership position, our leaders can guide you to do that. If you just want to come out and have fun, that's great, too!
Who can participate?
Young men and women ages 14 through 20 can enroll as members.
What previous Scouting experience is required?
None!
What sailing experience is required?
None!
Can I come sail with Ship 1000?
